Looking to make your home warm and cosy this winter?

Ballarat and the surrounding region have a wide variety of retailers offering everything you need to create an inviting haven as you snuggle from the cold.

Here are some ideas to get you started…

Candlelight and warming scents

Set the mood with the soft flickering light of a hand-poured candle from The Essential Candle Co or Sovereign Hill. Invoke the senses with some rich and luxurious scents using diffused essential oils or soy wax melts from Melting Point Candle Co.

For the perfect winter scent think the warming notes of vanilla, amber, cinnamon, bergamot, cedar and chai.

Textiles and comfort

Create that cosy den feel by adding softness and texture. Snuggle under blankets and throws from Creswick Woolen Mills or Branberry as you sink back into cushions with a local flair from Taylor & Stirling.  Complete your perfect winter outfit with a jumper from Such n Such, and while you’re there why not pick up a new faux plant.

Keep your toes warm with handmade socks from The Odd Sockery, while you wrap your hands around a Ruby Pilven mug filled with the earthy warmth of a Grounded Pleasures chai latte.

Add some texture to your favourite room with a dried floral arrangement by @therefinedbloomco

The perfect fireplace

It’s always nice to light the fire for the warmth and the atmosphere but what if you don’t have one inside? Consider a custom designed outdoor firepit from PO Box Designs. Rug up, gather your loved ones and toast some marshmallows around the glow of the fire.

Beautiful local artwork

There’s nothing like walking into a room and being mesmerised by beautiful artwork on a wall. What often makes the experience more memorable is the moment you learn the artwork has been created by a local artist.
Add a piece of art by one of Ballarat’s talented artists Steph WallaceSusan Nethercote or Katherine Scott to your home this winter.

Across Victoria’s Midwest, we acknowledge that we travel across the ancient landscapes of many First Peoples communities.

These lands have been nurtured and cared for over tens of thousands of years and we respect the work of Traditional Custodians for their ongoing care and protection.

We recognise the past injustices against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in this country. As our knowledge grows, we hope that we can learn from their resilience and creativity that has guided them for over 60,000 years.

As we invite people to visit and explore Victoria’s Midwest, we ask that alongside us, you also grow to respect the stories, living culture and connection to Country of the Ancestors and Elders of our First Peoples.
