With over 20 years of experience working as a creative, Travis Price has built a reputation as a leader in the commercial illustration industry.

A product of the University of Ballarat, Price has worked for some of the most innovative Advertising Agencies, Bands and Clothing Brands.

Respected internationally for his evolution and experimentation in vector illustration Price has presented at numerous design conferences and universities regarding his work including the National Gallery of Victoria.

Price continues to work on a variety of commercial and apparel projects from his home studio in Ballarat surrounded by his growing family.

The Hop Queen mural was a self-initiated and financed collaborative project between Price and Mass Motion. “I remember at the time it felt like Ballarat was awakening from a long slumber and exciting businesses and people were creating positive change within the community. Much of my focus with work had been outside of Ballarat for some time and I wanted to create something that would resonate with local residents. The byline “The past is History” was a tongue in cheek acknowledgment of Ballarat's well-documented history but also a call to action to move on to create our own identity/future."

The Hop Queen mural was painted over three days in April 2016 with the help of fellow local artists Merda and Cax One.

Acknowledgement of Country

Across Victoria’s Midwest, we acknowledge that we travel across the ancient landscapes of many First Peoples communities. These lands have been nurtured and cared for over tens of thousands of years and we respect the work of Traditional Custodians for their ongoing care and protection.

We recognise the past injustices against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in this country. As our knowledge grows, we hope that we can learn from their resilience and creativity that has guided them for over 60,000 years. As we invite people to visit and explore Victoria’s Midwest, we ask that alongside us, you also grow to respect the stories, living culture and connection to Country of the Ancestors and Elders of our First Peoples.
