20 things to do in Ballarat for under $20

Brilliantly Ballarat Walking Tour

Who says you need a hefty budget to enjoy a getaway?

With a little creativity, Ballarat offers a whole lot of fun without putting a dent in your wallet.

Here’s how to enjoy all the best bits of this charming city for less...

Getting here and around

With public transport free across Victoria this April, ditching the car and catching a train to Ballarat has never looked so good!

Once you're at Ballarat Station, getting around is a breeze, with public buses ready to whisk you off to popular spots: Sovereign Hill (Route 21), the Ballarat Wildlife Park (Route 20), Eureka Centre (Route 15) and the beautiful Ballarat Botanical Gardens (Route 10). For the gardens and lake precinct, you can also stay on the train and disembark at Wendouree Train Station; from there it is a flat 12-minute walk (900m) via Gillies Street.

Acknowledgement of Country

Across Victoria’s Midwest, we acknowledge that we travel across the ancient landscapes of many First Peoples communities. These lands have been nurtured and cared for over tens of thousands of years and we respect the work of Traditional Custodians for their ongoing care and protection.

We recognise the past injustices against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in this country. As our knowledge grows, we hope that we can learn from their resilience and creativity that has guided them for over 60,000 years. As we invite people to visit and explore Victoria’s Midwest, we ask that alongside us, you also grow to respect the stories, living culture and connection to Country of the Ancestors and Elders of our First Peoples.
