3 unexpected Ballarat stays

Mooramong Tiny Houses

A secluded tiny house. A caravan park dotted with dogs. A 115-year-old hotel.

Ballarat's quirky stays are wonderfully distinct and very much off-beat.

So choose your own adventure and rest your head somewhere a little bit different on your next escape...

Mooramong Tiny Houses

Mooramong Tiny Houses

Mooramong Tiny Houses might be small in size but they're big on charm.

A collab between the National Trust and Into The Wild Escapes, these three secluded cabins are tucked away on Mooramong Estate, a 4000-acre sheep farm near Skipton.

Each tiny home is named after a silent film character played by Hollywood star Claire Adams, who once owned the historic property with her Australian millionaire husband, Donald ‘Scobie’ MacKinnon.

Mooramong's illustrious cast features:

  • Tiny Lenore, with an oh-so-dreamy outdoor bathtub
  • Tiny Helen, boasting silo views and a panoramic skyline
  • Tiny Justyn, perched near a lake and overlooking the country landscape
The Provincial Hotel

The Provincial Hotel

It's the hotel that defines its vibe as "just like staying at your exceptionally stylish best friend’s house" – a best friend with an eye for playful fabrics, bespoke furniture, and a mix of contemporary and classic artworks.

The Provincial Hotel, take a bow!

This fun-yet-sophisticated boutique offering is located in the heart of Ballarat in historic Lydiard Street North.

Built in 1909 and recognised by the National Trust, The Provincial's uniquely-curated rooms are the perfect blend of comfort and luxury.

The cherry on top is the hotel's European-inspired restaurant Lola, named after spirited gold rush showgirl Lola Montez (look her up, you won't be disappointed!).

And the girl power theme continues in The Provincial's courtyard with the chic Clara the cocktail caravan – a nod to The Ballarat Times' first female editor.

Acknowledgement of Country

Across Victoria’s Midwest, we acknowledge that we travel across the ancient landscapes of many First Peoples communities. These lands have been nurtured and cared for over tens of thousands of years and we respect the work of Traditional Custodians for their ongoing care and protection.

We recognise the past injustices against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in this country. As our knowledge grows, we hope that we can learn from their resilience and creativity that has guided them for over 60,000 years. As we invite people to visit and explore Victoria’s Midwest, we ask that alongside us, you also grow to respect the stories, living culture and connection to Country of the Ancestors and Elders of our First Peoples.
