One iconic lake, five foreshore eateries, countless dining options.

If Lake Wendouree is the jewel in Ballarat’s crown, these five restaurants and cafes make this landmark truly shine.

Racers Bar & Cafe

Racers Bar & Cafe

2 Wendouree Parade

Sitting pretty on the corner of picturesque Webster Street and Wendouree Parade is Racers Bar & Cafe.

This revamped 1930s corner shop is a favourite pit stop for cyclists young and old.

All-day breakfast is always a winner in our books, as is Racers’ line-up of homemade cakes, biscuits and slices.

Ballarat Yacht Club

The Yacht Club

18 Wendouree Parade

As its name suggests, the Yacht Club is the home of the Ballarat Yacht Club, which has been in operation since 1877.

Located on Lake Wendouree’s southern foreshore, the cafe’s seasonal menu features a range of delicious breakfast, lunch and morning/afternoon tea options.

During the warmer months, soak up the sunshine with drinks and live music on The Yachty’s outdoor deck.

Lake View Hotel

Lake View Hotel

22 Wendouree Parade

Established in 1875, the Lake View Hotel is the last of 13 hotels that once lined the banks of Lake Wendouree.

Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the historic venue features a restaurant, bar and three function rooms with alfresco dining for 150 patrons.

And visit weekdays between 3.30pm and 5pm for School’s Out Happy Hour, with half price milkshakes, soft drinks, hot drinks, chips, wedges, pizza, house wine, tap beer and more.

Boatshed Restaurant

Boatshed Restaurant

27 Wendouree Parade

Located near View Point, the Boatshed Restaurant combines amazing views of Lake Wendouree with modern Australian cuisine.

This Wendouree Parade mainstay is a popular choice amongst locals and visitors alike.

Keep an eye on the restaurant’s socials for regular specials including $25 chowder every Wednesday night and $25 fish and chips every Thursday.

And who can resist a breakfast cocktail with their eggs benedict?!

Pipers by the Lake

Pipers By The Lake

403 Wendouree Parade

The grand pavilion that is Pipers By The Lake is nestled among century-old trees opposite the Ballarat Botanical Gardens.

An open-plan dining space leads out onto a deck immersed in the greenery of the Lake Wendouree foreshore.

Take your pick from the extensive breakfast and lunch offerings, or order a takeaway grazing box and picnic in the beautiful gardens across the road.

Webster’s Market and Cafe

Other dining options within a block or two of Lake Wendouree include:

  • Webster’s Market & Cafe (61 Webster Street)
  • Eclectic Tastes Cafe & Pantry (2 Burnbank Street)

Across Victoria’s Midwest, we acknowledge that we travel across the ancient landscapes of many First Peoples communities.

These lands have been nurtured and cared for over tens of thousands of years and we respect the work of Traditional Custodians for their ongoing care and protection.

We recognise the past injustices against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in this country. As our knowledge grows, we hope that we can learn from their resilience and creativity that has guided them for over 60,000 years.

As we invite people to visit and explore Victoria’s Midwest, we ask that alongside us, you also grow to respect the stories, living culture and connection to Country of the Ancestors and Elders of our First Peoples.
