Enjoy a slice of Ballarat’s Best Pie this August

Ballarat’s popular pie trail is back for seconds this winter.

From 1-31 August 2024, Ballarat’s Best Pie will showcase 28 savoury and sweet pies from some of Victoria’s top cafes, restaurants and bakeries.

The self-guided map is available online or pick up a copy from the Ballarat Visitor Information Centre (225 Sturt St).

And for your chance to win a weekend in Ballarat worth over $1000, buy a pie from any participating venue and post a picture to Instagram using the tags #ballaratsbestpie and #visitballarat.

The winners

The best of the best have been crowned at the 2024 Ballarat’s Best Pie Awards.

A judging panel of pie connoisseurs included Tim Bone (Good Chef Bad Chef co-host) and food writer Richard Cornish.

MasterChef Australia‘s Sofia Levin hosted the awards ceremony at Hop Temple on 3 August.

  • First place – Grand Prize Winner: Itinerant Spirits’ wild orchard apple and Vansetter Vodka pie
  • Second place: 321 Cafe Learmonth’s lamb shank and mustard mash potato pie
  • Third place: Flying Chillies’ Mum’s curry laksa pie

  • Best Savoury Pie: 321 Cafe Learmonth’s lamb shank and mustard mash potato pie
  • Best Sweet Pie: Itinerant Spirits’ wild orchard apple and Vansetter Vodka pie
  • Best Bakery Pie: 1816 Bakehouse’s beef filet mignon pie
  • Best Hero of Local Produce: Peasant’s The Urban Shepherd pie – available at Sip Champagne Bar
